VMware vCenter Server installation (1)
Setup a new VM
-
Open VMware Workstation 9 and create a new VM to install Windows Server 2008 R2

-
Select Microsoft Windows for Guest Windows and Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 for version

-
Name it to vCS and set the location (E:\Shared Virtual Machines\vCS)

-
I set as default the following steps due to edit the setting the hardware values later

Set to 25GB space and change to Store virtual disk as a single file

Click Next

-
Click Finish

Install OS and Configuration
-
Remove unnecessary hardware like Floppy and Printer and assign downloaded Windows Server 2008 R2 ISO into CD/DVD rom

-
Power on the VM and install Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition

On DC1, open DNS Console to add a new A record for vCS (IP:192.168.145.130/24, GW:192.168.145.2)

-
On vCS, configure network adapter to static IP as followings

- Fully Patch the server and configure the Server before joining to the domain
-
Join to the domain

-
Enter Domain Admins account to join the system to the domain and reboot the system



-
After rebooting, log in as DEA account.
-
Enable remote management of this server from other computers

-
Turn off IESec for Administrators

-
open DNS console to browse Reverse lookup zones

-
Create a new Zone to select a primary zone

-
Select for the Forest

-
IPv4 Reverse Lookup zone

-
Add 192.168.145 for the network ID

-
Keep it as recommended

-
Finish

-
Open vCS Properties in Forward Lookup zone and check Update Associated Pointer (PTR) record

-
Refresh on reverse lookup Zone, vCS is now shown up

Install Prerequisites

To install vCenter Server, as you can see there are several prerequisites as below

Right Click on vCS tab on VMware Workstation, and open CD/DVD settings

Mount E:\Download\VMware\VMware-VIMSetup-all-5.1.0-880471.iso

-
I already downloaded VMware VIP Setup All 5.1.0 evaluation copy from VMware.com)

Open to run install Menu
