Setup vmlab.local (19)

Download Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition VHD (x86)

  1. Download it from here
  2. Extract to a VHD in a local drive and two files will be created (VHD and VMC)

     
     


Convert VHD file to VMDK file format

  1. Download and install VMware vCenter Converter Standalone from here
  2. Click Convert Machine


  3. Select Source type to Backup image or third-party virtual machine and select extracted Win2k3R2ee.vmc file


  4. Select Destination type to VMware Infrastructure Virtual Machine and input vCenter admin creds


  5. Name it and select the Template directory


  6. Select one of ESXi Hosts and SAN Datastore along with VM version to 9


  7. Click Data To Copy option to edit and select Data copy type to Select volumes to copy and advanced


  8. Click Destination Layout


     
     

  9. Change the setting as below


  10. Change Memory size to 2 on Devices settings


  11. Change network port group to 172.20.255-Port group


  12. Check the options as below on Advanced options


     
     

  13. Finish


  14. It will start the conversion process


  15. It is completed with one warning


  16. Open vSphere and open a console of the converted VM (WS03R2ENT)


  17. Default Username/password for this VHD version is Administrator/Evaluation1 (case sensitive)
  18. After log on, change the password as you want


  19. Check VMware tools>Advanced>Check and upgrade Tools during power cycling option


  20. Check the Force BIOS Setup to get in


  21. Run Disk Cleanup the unnecessary space and remove Windows install file folder under C:\
  22. Patch all available Windows updates


  23. Turn power the VM off
  24. Edit Settings>Remove Floppy Drive, enable Memory Hot Plug


     

 

  1. Turn on the VM and on BIOS Setting >reconfigure below settings





Ready for it is syspreping from vCenter

  1. On vc5, download sysprep tool for Windows Server 2003 SP2 from Here
  2. Run command prompt, extract the downloaded files to the correct directory (see here)



  3. Extract complete
  4. Go to SP2QFE>open deploy and extract the selected files to the Sysprep folder below
